B. Critical Thinking About What We Learn in School

Many Christian young people attend Christian schools where the goal of their education should be to learn how to make Christ Lord of every part of their lives. But probably most Christian young people are attending the public schools which leave Christ and the Bible out of education. Also, even the graduates of Christian elementary and secondary schools for the most part attend colleges and universities which are not Christian, where the curriculum is actually anti-Christian. Furthermore, many Christian schools do not do a very good job of making education truly Christ-centered. They often teach ideas which are from the world and not from Christ Who is the Truth. For these reasons it is important for Christian students to think critically about everything they are taught. It is important that they use the teachings of the Bible to test for truth all the ideas which they are taught in every subject, every class, and every school.

Let us now look at the various subject areas to see how they can be tested for truth. We will consider science, history, social studies, health, and English literature. We will find that in each of these subject areas the Word of God has things to say which provide Christian students with tests for truth. Every Christian student can have at his or her hand defensive weapons with which to guard against error. Each diligent and courageous Christian student can possess truth from God with which light and understanding can be brought into a classroom which is otherwise in darkness. Jesus said to us, His believers,

"You are the light of the world...Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven."(Matthew 5:14,16)
